Choudarpatti heritage village exists on the Traditional Trade Route, 9km away from Thirumangalam in Madurai District. The damaged Pandya Structure Siva temple is under renovation proposal by the Village community. This village is having a heritage water body. The templates of Village Deity in this temple are having very old trees. DHAN Foundation in collaboration with INTACH, Madurai Chapter, Travel Club, Madurai, Vayalagam Federations of Gundar Upper Region and with the technical support of Dr. V. Vedachalam Archaeologist and Dr. G. Sethuramn. Public and Host Communities of Choudarpatti and Heritage volunteers of Madurai numbering 120 were participated. Madurai Heritage Walk Kuppalnatham Heritage Village
Kuppalnatham heritage village exists on the Traditional Trade Route: 13km away from Thirumangalam – on Sedapatti Road of Madurai District. This village is one of the important eighteen Jain Sites of Madurai which is well protected by the local village people. DHAN Foundation organized the Heritage Walk 13.5.18 Sunday in collaboration with INTACH Madurai Chapter, Madurai Travel club with the support of Host Communities and Vayalagam Federations of Gundar Upper Region. More than 100 people participated. Dr. V. Vedachalam Archaeologist gave technical support. The brochure on Kuppalnatham Jain Monuments released to the host communities and local youths.
Madurai Heritage Walk - Koodal Azhagar Temple, Madurai
The Historic Koodal Azhagar Temple exists in the heart of Madurai near Periyar bus stand. The Sangam literature PARIPADAL mention about the existence of this Thirumal Temple. According to the stone inscription of Vittala Deva Maharayar, this temple was renewed completely during 16th Century (1547 A. D). This temple is one of the five temples of Tamilnadu with Unique Architecture of ASHTANGA Vimana. Two stone Sculpture of Vijayanagar period exists in this temple. DHAN Foundation in collaboration with INTACH, Madurai Chapter, Travel Club, Madurai, and Thenmadurai Vattara Kalangiam of Madurai Urban Region with the technical support of Dr. V. Madurai Heritage Walk at Vikramangalam - Undankal Jain site
This historic site exists 25km west of Madurai (Melakkal to Usilampatti Road) on the traditional trade route Chera Country and flourished well as important Trade center from 11th Century. On the way to Mudalaikulam, the hillock namely Undankal is having Jain beds and Seven Tamil Brahmi Inscriptions of 2000 years old. DHAN Foundation in collaboration with INTACH, Madurai Chapter, Travel Club, Madurai, and Solai Vattara Kalangiam of Madurai Rural Region with the technical support of Dr. V. Thiruparankundram Heritage site exists 6km south of Madurai city (Madurai – Virudhunagar Main Road) on the traditional trade route of Madurai. Thiruparankundram is a Historical important place center for Hindus. Jains and Islams. This site is one among the eight important Jain centers of Madurai. Recently Archaeological Survey of Indian renovated and made accessible the site existed on the top of the North West corner of the hill where the Jain beds, caves with 2200 old Brahmi Inscriptions are available. DHAN Foundation organised a Heritage Walk on 13.5.18 Sunday in Collaboration with INTACH Madurai Chapter, Madurai Travel club with the support of Host Communities of WSI Pasumalai Vattara Kalangiam of Madurai Urban Region. Historic Azhakarkoil exists 24km north to the Madurai City on the traditional Trade route of Uraiyur of Chola country to Madurai Pandya Country. The Azhakar temple exists here was constructed by Early Pandya, Chola, Late Pandya and Vanathirayar kings, expanded during Vijayanagar and Nayak period with more than 100 stone inscription. The Ramayana paintings of 17th Century exist in the Vasantha Mandapam are done during the Nayak period is unique. Historic Sitharmalai is one of the Protected Jain Monuments of (2000 year old Jain beds with Brahmi Inscriptions) of Archaeological Survey of India which exists 40km from Madurai on Traditional Trade route of Usilampatti to Batlagundu Road near Anaipatti. The Anaipatti is famous for its Peranai and Hanuman Temple which belongs to Nayak Period. DHAN Foundation in collaboration with INTACH, Madurai Chapter, Travel Club, Madurai, Solai Vattara Kalangiam of Madurai Rural Region with the technical support of Dr. V. Historic Ayyankottai, Thanichiam is more than 2000 year old historical importance place which exists on the 4 line highway from Madurai to Dindigul before Vadipatti. These places are mentioned in the 1200 year old Copper Plate ” Vellvikudi Seppedu” of Pandya king the Varagunapandya I. The Ayyanar temple is an important historic temple and this village is having Traditional Irrigation tank with Sluice with Stone Inscription belongs to 1802 AD.
